Romanța Unește, the Cluj-based platform that has spent the past years keeping the Romanian romanță alive, brings its 2026 production to Brașov: "Maestrul și Măiastra" — The Master and the Maiastra — an original stage play about the mysterious love story between Constantin Brâncuși and Maria Tănase.
The show is built for the Brâncuși anniversary year and puts two art forms in dialogue: the sculptor's pared-down shapes and the emotion of the Romanian romance song, carried by Maria Tănase's repertoire. Pasărea în văzduh (Bird in Space) is the central image — the flight, and the inner freedom it stands for.
Expect live music rather than a recital: dialogue, poetry, dance and visual projections inspired by Brâncuși's work, with sculptures by Liviu Mocan on stage.
Cast. Constantin Brâncuși — Sorin Lupu. Maria Tănase — Iulia Merca. Maria as a child — Daria Marin. With Sara Stan, Gyenge Zoltán Balázs and Noémi Veres, dancers from the "Mărțișorul" student folk ensemble and Attitude Dance Studio.
Music. The ArtFest Romance Orchestra, conducted from the piano by Péter Kolcsár. Arrangements by Urszuj Kálmán. Libretto and direction by Ina Hudea; artistic director Sorin Lupu.
Practical. Tuesday 13 October 2026, doors at 19:00, at the Reduta Cultural Centre (Strada Apollonia Hirscher 8). Tickets are sold online at https://in-time.hu/e/maestrul-si-maiastra-1013. An early-bird discount of 20% applies to the first 100 tickets.
The production tours four cities in October 2026 — Târgu Mureș (5th), Cluj-Napoca (6th), Bistrița (8th) and Brașov (13th).
